Everything Else

Thank you!

In this series we are saying thank you to our colleagues in the movement who have helped us to stay connected and learning in the last few months.

Portsmouth U3A would like to mention committee member Susan Johnson who writes, prints and distributes the newsletter. She has also helped her U3A adapt to using Zoom; running her own groups, helping group leaders and members to do so and even investigating setting up Zoom sessions with a U3A in France.

U3A member Fiona said, “She has mastered the art of classes via zoom very effectively and entertains us with Powerpoint presentations, youtube clips and small group discussions via “breakout rooms.” Susan’s contribution has been above and beyond anyone’s expectations. With unfailing good humour she has kept us all connected, learning and laughing in these worrying and depressing times.”

Chairman, Lynne Batsford, and Group Leaders Co-Ordinator, Joanna Goulson, of Pewsey U3A have been thanked by Wendy. They’ve been keeping U3A members connected through their regular, informative and entertaining emails which member Wendy said have been “so welcome when so many of us have not been able to meet face-to-face.”

Pat from Prudhoe and District U3A wanted to mention Group Coordinator Kathy Clegg who produces a twice monthly newsletter, has been instrumental in setting up Zoom meetings and has even offered to the speaker at their first monthly meeting on Zoom.

Pat said of Kathy, “She has done an amazing job since taking over the role 3 years ago, but she has come into her own even more so during the last few months. Whenever there is a job to do Kathy can be relied on to sort it out. Very importantly Kathy is the person who keeps us right on the ever changing rules and regulations. Everyone needs a Kathy in their U3A and we are very lucky to have her.”

Bedford U3A committee wanted to express
their thanks to Membership Secretary, Jo Fordham, for instigating Self Isolating News of which there have now been 66 editions and
rising. Freda said, ‘Jo has worked tirelessly to provide a mix of news, latest
guidelines, brain teasers and laughter at least twice a week since the
beginning of lockdown. Well done and thank you Jo.’

Thanks so much to all the U3A members who have been working tirelessly over the last few months to keep us connected and learning. Is there a member of your U3A who deserves to be thanked for the efforts they’ve put in? Let us know by emailing communications@u3a.org.uk
