For u3a day, we have been encouraging our members to spread the word and have asked Group Contacts to hold meetings in parks and other public places where they may attract attention. The watercolour group have created painted butterflies which we’ve dotted around town in strategic places. Members of the Gardening Group have been given a bed in a local park which they have planted up.
We arranged a treasure hunt round the town for children with clues appearing on our website and Facebook page from Monday to Friday during the u3a Day week. We hope this will bring u3a to the attention of their parents.
For adults, we arranged a circular walk round Tunbridge Wells on 2 June to see some of the claret plaques put up by our Civic Society to celebrate notable figures in the town. Our Sewing Group made TWu3a sashes for the walk leaders to wear.
Finally, last week we were unexpectedly offered a shop window on a strategic corner in the town to decorate for u3a Day. We have had a tremendous response from members and friends who have lent items, including two mannikins. Lindsay and I dressed the window – exhausting, but rewarding!
