A Day of Dance

A Day of Dance
15 January 2022

Peggy of Christchurch and Bournemouth u3as discusses a day of dance run by the International Folk Dance group.

People holding hands in a line, about to dance

40 members attended 'A Day of Dances from around the World' from 11 am to 3 pm hosted by Bournemouth and Christchurch u3a's International Folk Dance Groups. The event was organised by the Groups' Leader, Janet, and the guest teachers were Phil and Brenda who, during lockdown, ran twice weekly zoom dance sessions which proved very popular, attracting participants from a wide area.

The day comprised two workshops with an optional bring and share lunch. There was the opportunity to participate in one workshop or both. The dances were from several countries including Portugal, China and Israel. Some were performed in a circle, with others in sets and line formations.

All the dances were 'walked through' one or more times and there was a great deal of laughter, particularly when the steps didn't go quite right!

A brilliant day with lots of smiles, the opportunity to meet other members, learn something new and, perhaps most importantly, enjoy!
