Fun and Learning at South East u3a Forum's Summer School

Rob, a PR Adviser for the South East region, talks about the recent South East Forum Summer School

We couldn’t have asked for better weather in this, our eleventh year running the South East Forum’s 16th Summer School at Chichester.

Chichester University offered its excellent facilities to us for the week. There were 10 courses, ranging from Cycling and Yoga to Walking, French, Maths and Poetry. Topical subjects were not ignored, with Earth Matters being a popular new course this year. The Ukulele group performed a concert for everyone on the last day. Family History was well attended and Mah-jong provided a fun few days.

Extra-curricular activities are always well attended including the Quiz Night, Film and the talk on the Golden Age of Wireless. Nearly 80 people bought tickets at the Chichester Festival Theatre for the highly acclaimed performance of The Southbury Child, prior to its moving to the London’s West End.

A highlight of the week was when the Mayor of Chichester and the deputy Vice Chancellor of the University came to the School with Helen and the School’s attendees to plant a tree in Celebration of both the 40th Anniversary of the u3a in the UK and the Queen’s Platinum Anniversary.

The 2023 School will be slightly later due to changes in the academic year at Chichester and will be in the first week of September. Helen and her team who organise the Summer School are retiring after 11 years and a new team is in place and planning has started.
