Meet up and Fish

Meet up and Fish
17 August 2018

Jimmy Wignall from Wigan U3A on nature, fishing and setting up a new learning group.

Wigan U3A is now up and running and like all new U3As, finding new learning groups which members are interested in is all part and parcel of making each U3A successful.

So after general chats about what members wanted I decided to help facilitate a new fishing group. It is unusual to find a fishing group in a U3A - there are only ten groups around the whole UK- but as I now have some time since I've just retired to enjoy my love of fishing again I thought why not? I will give it a go.

I put the word out and a couple of members signed up and off we went to the local lakes. We had an early start and as the morning progressed each one of us started to catch. The weather was kind to us which is always helpful but not essential as being in the elements is part of what is enjoyable about being outside with nature. The pleasure of fishing means that you are in the moment, you are learning new skills and you are doing it with other likeminded friends. We all enjoyed our love of fishing

We have now set other dates in our diaries for future adventures and I am hoping the group will grow as more members hear of us. I am looking forward to there being many future tales at the meeting about the ones that got away.
