Barbara Cordina, former Trustee for the East of England
I had the pleasure of being invited to join the members of Thetford u3a on 5 June 2024 to celebrate their 10th Anniversary. The event was held in a secluded scout hall in Thetford Forest, difficult to find but well worth the visit. I had previously visited Thetford u3a in my role as Trustee for the East of England so know them well. The report below was written by member Graham. Congratulations to Lesley Braund (chair) and her team for a lovely afternoon.

June saw Thetford u3a's 10th Anniversary. Lynn Ready our ‘Founding Member’ gave a little speech on the events leading up to its inauguration. To commemorate it’s inception, on 5 June we had our 10 year anniversary party. As it coincided with the anniversary of D-Day & the Normandy landings, it was given a World War 2 theme. Some of our more adventurous members turning out in contemporary dress with land army girls & nippies prominent & a character slightly out of context Our Man In Havanna.
Music was provided by the Andrew Sisters, Benny Goodman & other ‘40s dance bands. A ‘Games Room’ had been set up containing half a dozen tabletop games.
The proceedings were accompanied by scones with jam AND cream all home-made by Kathryn & a generous helping of anniversary cake. As always at these gatherings proceedings were accompanied by a background of good-natured chatter between friends old & newly made.
