Romsey and District u3a Wine Tasting
06 May 2021

Derek, group convenor of Romsey and District u3a's wine tasting group, talks about what the group have been up to this year.

The Romsey u3a Wine Group have continued to meet monthly although virtually. We purchased mini glass jars with each member having six, which allows all members to be tasting the same wines together.

December saw 22 members joining our Zoom meeting, our Christmas gathering ended with “The Twelve Days of Christmas” with all members joining in, and all the actions enthusiastically played out!

January saw members invited on a “Tour of Spain” led by our own wine group member Gordon Massie, Rioja seemed to be the main wine of choice for a large portion of the group and of course members had created a wide assortment of tapas to enjoy on route, Gordon did not disappoint, with great photos and awesome information about the different areas we visited.

February saw Malcolm take us on an informational trip about the Pinot Noir grape, with some amazing findings, such as the most expensive wine sold at auction!!!

March was Gordon leading us through an assortment of Malbec wines from around the world, then April we toured the Burgundy area of France with Mike Phillips, all the while tasting some wonderful wines of the region.

Members will be looking forward to our May meeting, where we will be taken to Southern Italy and Sicily for an interesting quiz with Jacqui and Angela, with each member ready to open their bottle of Terre Divita, Pinot Grigio .

We have a very supportive group, which has had someone every month stepping forward with some form of presentation. We are now covered until the end of the year.

Obviously in this lockdown no member has been able to meet up, so virtually has been the way forward for us to continue meeting and enjoying the pleasure of tasting wine together. We are very lucky to have the people in this inventive group who are willing to put their thoughts into each month’s presentation.
