City of Derby Lord Mayor and Councillor Ged Potter with Derby u3a Singing Group
Derby u3a celebrated forty successful years with an anniversary party in which two hundred retired and semi-retired members joined the Mayor of the City of Derby and Councillor Ged Potter in a grand sing-along.
The event, held at The Wardwick, one of Derby's most iconic buildings, showcased more than thirty Derby u3a groups. There was a visit to Derby Art Gallery, a short walking tour from the Grade II listed building, singing, quizzes, challenges in French and Spanish, a Juke Box Jury for Classic Rock, brain teasers in psychology, ukelele performances and so much more.
The Lord Mayor applauded the energetic activities of all Derby u3a members. Richard Sherratt, Derby u3a Chair, enjoyed a joke with the Lord Mayor before joining him and Deputy Chair Jackie Gill in cutting the celebratory cake.
The programme of events was staged by Derby u3a members, for the members, as is the key tenet of u3a.
The celebratory year continues with a picnic in the park in June and a November party to congratulate all who completed eight activities in the 40th Anniversary Personal Challenge. The challenge is to try something new with an activity headed with each letter and digit from the title of Derby u3a.
