Southport u3a Return to Southport Flower Show

After their show garden and wins last year, Southport u3a will be returning to the Southport Flower Show on Thursday 17 August –  Sunday 20 August. In this article, they share their plans - including a Design A Garden Competition.

Fancy getting involved with our Design a Garden for the u3a? Design a small 6 x 6 metre garden suitable for u3a Members.

The winner receives the much converted u3a Watering Can Trophy plus two VIP tickets to the 100th Anniversary Southport 1920’s Gala Flower Show in 2024. Tickets are worth £240 and include dinner, afternoon tea, meet the celebrities and much, much more. To enter the competition you will need:-

• A title for your garden with a brief design description.
• The main features, colour palette and any hard landscaping, and why you feel the design is suitable for a u3a Member.
• A drawing of your garden - this does not need to be too detailed, either an overhead design or front view.
• Ideally your garden should be a sustainable and environmentally friendly design.
• Extra points will be given for originality and suitability.
• You don’t have any budget constraints - so go wild and create!

Southport u3a, Gardening Group, still exhausted from last year’s efforts, won’t be building an outside show garden this year but we will be in the Societies Tent – look for a huge Victorian Gazebo with, (hopefully), a gorgeous but rather more modest garden beneath. We will also be showcasing all the fabulous Garden Designs.
