101 New Members for Cam, Dursley &District u3a
21 October 2022

Pam, Group Co-ordinator of Cam, Dursley & District u3a talks about the huge success of their recent open day - which led to 101 members joining.

Having felt for a while that our u3a needed a post-Covid boost, we decided to hold an Open Day to celebrate what we do and to share it with our local community.

We tried hard to reach as many people as possible, with publicity in local towns and villages, using posters, flyers and invitations handed out by members in the street.

When the day arrived, our Group Leaders came early to put together displays showcasing their activities and were ready to chat to visitors and answer their questions.

From the moment the doors opened, people flocked in, greeted by smiling welcomers, who pointed them in the right direction.

The Kurling group gave a demonstration and invited everyone to give it a try. The Acoustic Guitar Group played their repertoire to entertain us and the Dowsers encouraged visitors to test their skills.

The café was open for those who needed refreshments and was soon doing a roaring trade.

The team on the Membership table had pens and a pile of forms ready, but after less than half an hour they needed more. By lunchtime there were one hundred and one completed forms and the Treasurer’s cash box was overflowing.

The following morning two more forms dropped through the Membership Secretary’s door. I think we’re back!
