Claire, Chair of Easingwold & District u3a, talks about their recent planting of trees to celebrate 20 years.
This year, Easingwold & District u3a is 20 years old. To celebrate we planted ten fruit trees in Millfields Park for the whole community to forage in years to come.
Our Chair welcomed everyone and thanked all who had helped with the running of the local u3a organisation over the years, especially those who helped initiate it all. Thanks were also given to members who helped organise the day, the Green Spaces group for digging holes and planting trees, and Nunnington National Trust for donating metal tags so you know what you are eating!
Our ten longest standing members, ranging from membership number 6 to 44, then added a mulch around the trees, followed by a short speech and ceremonial cake cutting by our Honorary Presidents.
A picnic in the park followed, including the eating of some of the fruit from our newly planted trees.
