35 trig points for 35 years of Lancaster & Morecambe u3a
Margaret, Chair of Lancaster & Morecambe u3a, talks about the recent challenge completed by their walking groups to celebrate the u3a's 35th anniversary,
As part of the ongoing celebrations of Lancaster & Morecambe u3a’s 35th Anniversary, the Walking Groups, of which there are 6, set themselves the target of bagging 35 Trig Points.
They were not deterred by rain and the occasional burst of sun; Helvellyn and Ingleborough were bagged in the mist; Nicky Nook in torrential rain. The Harder Walks Group started it off in April by bagging Scafell Pike, pictured above. On the way to number 35, a lady celebrated her 80th birthday by climbing Catbells above Derwentwater.
The Amblers Group, including a lady using a walking frame, achieved Beacon Fell, thus embodying everything that u3a represents; teamwork and personal endeavour.
The goal was achieved in August with Knipe Scar Common as the 35th Trig Point. Congratulations to everyone who took part in this fantastic achievement.
The groups at Lancaster & Morecambe u3a are celebrating their 35th anniversary in a wide range of ways. The Chat Over Lunch group had a meeting reminiscing over where they were in 1989, the creative writing group wrote stories and poems inspired by the number 35, The Architecture Group enjoyed a talk on the theme of architecture to be found along the 35 degree North line of latitude, the poetry group read 35 poems, the Exploring Recipes group celebrated by making cuisine popular in 1989 - vol au vents, quiche, prawn cocktail and devilled eggs. Those are just a few examples of the ways that the groups have marked the celebration - read more about their ongoing celebrations on Lancaster & Morecambe u3a's website.
